It’s everyone’s responsibility to help prevent, identify, and report abuse – so this September, work with us to help protect vulnerable older people from abuse.
September marks the start of Guinness Care’s campaign: Safetember. This annual campaign aims to raise awareness of different safeguarding matters.
For Safetember 2021, the focus will be on safeguarding against elder abuse.
Elder abuse is defined as: a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person.
With 1 in 6 older people living in the UK being victims of elder abuse, this has never been more important. As a housing and care provider, we have an important role to play in keeping people safe. Guinness is committed to safeguarding people who use, or are connected to, our services and to protecting them from abuse.
What we are doing for Safetember
Throughout the month we will be sharing various tools with our colleagues to help them prevent, identify, and report abuse. This will include:
- Case studies and stories.
- Lunch and learn sessions with external speakers.
- Educational content, including a new ‘knowledge hub’ full of important information, facts and figures.
- Practical tips on how to spot the signs and take appropriate action.
How you can get involved
Keep an eye on the Guinness Care Facebook and Twitter, where we will be posting bitesize, shareable content throughout Safetember. This will include practical tips on how to spot the signs, as well as important links to how to get help if you need it.
Join us in raising awareness of elder abuse and help protect communities. Together, we can make a difference and stand up to abuse.
